What is an IBCLC?

An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLCs are lactation professional who has met rigorous health science requirements, completed specialized lactation education and clinical training, and successfully passed a comprehensive certification examination. IBCLCs stay current with the latest research and advances in lactation care through recertification every five years. As highly trained professionals, IBCLCs are dedicated to supporting breastfeeding families, promoting public health, and providing expert, evidence-based lactation care.
